PhD Viva Presentations of Research Scholars Held at Law Department of Rohilkhand University

Bareilly: The Department of Law at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University successfully conducted the PhD viva voce presentations of research scholars Sanjay Kumar Yadav and Ritika Juneja on Saturday.

The event was attended by Professor Amit Malhotra from National Judicial Academy as the external examiner. Other distinguished academicians present included Professor O.P. Rai, Dean and Head of the Law Faculty Professor Amit Singh, Professor A.K. Singh, Professor Gurmeet Singh, Professor V.K. Gupta and Dr Arun Prakash Singh. Guests were welcomed with plants and shawls as a gesture of respect.

The first presentation was delivered by Ritika Juneja on the topic “Access to Justice by Tribunals with Reference to the Tribunal Reforms Act, 2021.” In her research, she highlighted several important recommendations aimed at strengthening the tribunal system in India. Her suggestions included the establishment of a National Tribunal Commission, recruitment of tribunal officials through competitive examinations, and discouraging the practice of treating tribunals merely as post-retirement appointments for government officials. She also emphasized the need for modern training of tribunal members, timely filling of vacancies and improved infrastructure facilities. Her research was completed under the supervision of Professor A.K. Singh of KGK College.

The second PhD viva presentation was given by Sanjay Kumar Yadav on the topic “An Evaluative Study of the Role and Impact of Lok Adalats in the Rohilkhand Region.” In his research findings, he suggested that Lok Adalats should be upgraded in line with modern technological developments and granted constitutional status. He also recommended the formulation of a dedicated Lok Adalat policy to improve operational mechanisms, monitoring systems and equitable distribution of resources. The research further stressed the need to align Lok Adalats with changing economic, social and cultural conditions while establishing a stronger monitoring framework.

The entire viva voce programme was conducted under the guidance of Professor Amit Singh. Faculty members including Dr Shehnaz Akhtar, Dr Laxmi Devi, Dr Praveen Krishna Chauhan, Dr Amit Kumar Singh, Dr Naimuddin and several research scholars, LLM students and staff members were also present during the programme.
